Sustainable management in progress

In less than three years, the surfaces certified (FSC) have reached more 4 million hectares.

Eight companies are today certified:

- in Cameroon, Pallisco, Reef, Wijma;

- 2 in Gabon, Rougier Gabon and CEB/ Precious Woods and two in Congo Brazza, CIB (DLH group) IFO/ Danzer Group.

These companies guarantee that their practices, assessed by a third party, respect the strictest environmental requirements.

Besides the credibility and legitimacy vis-à-vis the civil society and the environmental community, certification provides at the same time brand differentiation in the markets which attracts the consumer and provides a better price. The boost of certification is due to that mechanism. 

The actual crisis slows down the “premium” but the interest is still high.  Public authorities must set an example and favour certified timber by accepting to pay the price.  That is the price to pay for sustainable forest management !
