Carry on efforts of forest certification 

RACEWOOD 2010, which took place in Cameroon’s economic capital Douala with some 300 participants from 35 countries, was an real success.

Castorama decided to speed up a matter it has had on the table since 2000: certification of all wood and tropical wood products. It is one of the first in France to adopt such a commitment. Customers now have to be persuaded that they are making a good purchase.

Copenhagen is concentrating on the climate and the importance of the forests, but it is in Brussels where the work is being done to change European regulations: the hunt for illegal wood trade is about to commence! FSC certification is now a guarantee more than ever.

According to a recent report published by the WWF, certified concessions play a major role in protecting apes in the Congo Basin. They offer them a regulated and controlled living environment, where they are protected from hunters, and attention is paid to the ecological impact.
