ORGANIZATION

An organization designed to act

Intended to facilitate the implementation concerted initiatives in favor of the sustainable management, Africa Wood for Life is a club composed of 23 members, forest operators in the Congo Basin and the West Africa.

The Management Committee

Africa Wood For Life has not drafted a code of good behaviour.  On the other hand, AWL requires members to obtain a certificate of legality and traceability by the end of 2009. The non-performance of that requirement leads to AWL exclusion.

As already mentioned, the club members are committed to make all possible efforts in order to reach sustainable forest management certification. A goal of 10 million hectares is set for 2015.

How are the Management Committee decisions approved?

Africa Wood For Life meets tri-annually. All decisions concerning the club are made during those meetings. It was during one of those meetings that the goal of 10 million hectares of certified forest by 2015 was debated and unanimously approved.   Other issues discussed during these meetings are union organisation or for example, events that regroup the timber industry.

Africa Wood For Life Funding
The members make an annual contribution to Africa Wood For Life. The club has no expenses, strictly speaking.  Contributions are used to finance IFIA actions.
